| My favorite boredom snack is a Medjool date dipped in peanut butter. It's decadent, minimally processed (I try to buy peanut butter without added ingredients), and filling, which helps stave off later cravings. The only downside is that dates are extremely expensive, so I don't splurge on them every time I go grocery shopping. | It's normal to snack out of boredom. No need to feel guilty — we all do it! And if you need some healthy snack ideas, you'll enjoy today's newsletter. Below, Lisa Valente, a Healthline registered dietitian, shares her favorite tips for munching on nutrient-dense foods. | | | | Eat up, Ginger Wojcik Newsletter Editor, Healthline | | | Written by Ginger Wojcik January 9, 2025 • 3 min read | | | | | | Q: | I find that I often snack when I'm bored. Do you have any suggestions for healthy snacks or how to eat more filling meals so I snack less? | | A: | I have snacked out of boredom, too, so you're not alone! My biggest snack tip is to portion out what you are having so you stick to a small boredom snack rather than an entire bag of chips (or whatever it is).
Filling meals and snacks should include protein, fiber, and healthy fats, as those nutrients take longer to digest. For a satisfying meal that will keep you full, try to include some vegetables, a serving of protein, a whole grain, and maybe some olive oil, avocado, or nuts.
I try to pick snacks that have a combo of protein and fiber — Greek yogurt and berries, apple and peanut butter, almonds, or a mixture of dried cherries, popcorn, and peanuts (sometimes with a few chocolate chips). Also, make sure you're eating enough food throughout the day. Sometimes people have really small breakfasts and lunches and then find that they are super snack-y later in the day. | | | Lisa Valente, Registered Dietitian | | Want to learn more about food, diets, cooking, or some other nutrition subject?
