Types Of Vertigo Treatment In Toronto

By Nancy Gardner

Dizziness is the term that is used for the description of everything ranging from feeling lightheaded to feeling unsteady or weak. The dizziness which creates the sense that the surroundings or the individual are moving is known as vertigo. It is one of the reasons people see their doctors. Vertigo treatment in Toronto will depend on what caused the condition and the symptoms that are experienced.

It is always important to organize to meet the doctor prior to undergoing actual treatment. In some cases, the general doctor is able to handle the condition while in some instances a specialist will be required. The specialist may be a person dealing with the nose, ears or the throat. During the appointment, the doctor expects to understand the condition in detail. This is why the patient needs to clearly describe their condition. There are various types of vertigo.

Treating BPPV involves the physical therapist or doctor changing the way the head is positioned. It is a procedure known as canalith repositioning. It is effective and will require just a session or two. The other procedure involves treatment of inner ear conditions via the use of balance retraining exercise. The exercises are taught by physical therapists or occupational therapists. There are times when the doctor prescribes medications to help in immediate relief of symptoms of dizziness and nausea.

Treatment of menieres disease involves reduction of the retention of fluids in the body. This is achieved through diuretic use and such dietary changes as taking low salt diets. In some cases, one will be required to undergo injections via the eardrum or through surgery. In order to deal with anxiety disorders, there may be the use of psychotherapy or medications. The two may be used in combination for better outcomes.

For controlling vertigo that is caused by vestibular migraines, the patient will be assisted to know the exact triggers and prevent them in future. Focus will be on diet, sleep and exercise. There are medications to help in prevention of such migraines and reduction of their symptoms. There also are exercises to make the balance system less sensitive.

There are lifestyle and home remedies as well. People suffering from vertigo should remember that it causes them to lose balance and therefore may lead to serious injuries. In the event of an attack, you should avoid moving suddenly. The house needs to be fall-proofed by removing hazards like area rugs and electrical cords which may be exposed. There should be nonslip mats at the shower place.

The house needs to be well lit, more so at the stairs. You should avoid the consumption of alcohol, caffeine and tobacco because they tend to worsen symptoms when taken in excess. If they have to be taken, it should be in small amounts.

In some cases, vertigo is an indication of more serious conditions like stroke or multiple sclerosis. The symptoms will indicate this. It is thus always important to know the specific cause of the condition.

Best Tips For Hair Shine For Black Girls

By Nancy Gardner

For a woman of color, managing hair has its own set of challenges. Many professional stylists recommend that black women use different products and styling techniques than other ethnicities. To make it look as good as possible, there are many things you can try to achieve hair shine for black girls.

At night when you go to bed, use a satin pillowcase or cover your hair with a silk scarf to keep it from breaking or tearing. Once a month, use a protein or egg treatment to prevent breakage. Keep it in for at least an hour before you wash it out. Do not use too much protein or it will cause the strands to snap off.

These strands tend to be quite curly which makes it harder for the natural oils in the scalp to distribute to the ends of your stands. It is also quite fragile and prone to break easily, so you need to handle it carefully. You also need to keep it moisturized. Black hair is not usually coarse, instead it tends to be quite fine, so rough handling is not good for it.

When you wash it, deep condition it to add moisture from the roots to the tips. Be aware that many conditioners do not remove dirt well, so it is a good idea to use a sulfate-free shampoo. When you wash, focus on the scalp by rubbing it gently with your fingers. Do not scratch the scalp with your nails. Use natural oil once a day for moisture, or twice a week if you use perms or relaxers. Use only a small amount of leave-in moisturizer to seal the strands and keep then from breaking or splitting.

Split ends can also be a problem. Remember to moisturize your ends every day to prevent split ends or damaged strands. You can seal the ends of your strands using castor oil or coconut oil. These products can also make your hair look very shiny and healthy.

Do not be rough with it. It may tangle easily, and you may feel tempted to pull and yank on it to get the tangles out. Avoid doing this. It tends to only cause more damage. Instead, clear it out gently with a wide tooth comb. Use a wooden brush with soft natural bristles instead of a plastic one with plastic bristles, as this tends to cause less breakage.

If you are using heat styling tools, remember to use heat protection, such as grape seed oil, which is light and can endure high temperatures without burning your strands. This will help to control any heat damage if you accidentally use the heat styling tool for too long.

When you style it, try going with low maintenance styles such as braids and twists. This will keep it out of your way so that you will not feel tempted to play with it. It will also avoid you having to detangle it too often. You should also avoid using heating tools such as curlers and flat irons since they may cause heat damage.

Remaining A Mystery To Many; Is There A Cure For Lyme Disease?

By Daphne Bowen

Lyme borreliosis, the other term for Lyme disease is a disease caused by bacterial infection. This bacteria is spread by ticks of the borrelia type or species. It gets to human beings through a tick bite from an infected tick. The tick gets the infection from host animals that are infected. Such animals include deer and mice. The bacterium however, is not carried by all ticks. Treatment of many diseases has been developed due to their prevalence. Due to this, vast developments have also been taken in developing the cure of Lyme disease. Elaboration of the question;is there a cure for lyme disease, has been done below.

It takes about 36 to 48 hours for an infected tick to transmit the disease into you once it attaches itself. Such ticks are small and difficult to notice. They also hide in areas that are difficult to see such as the armpits, groin or scalp. Once the disorder gets into you, erythema migran, which is an expanding area of redness is the common indicator. This occurs around a week after the bite. This rash is neither itchy nor painful.

High temperatures, frequent headaches and fatigue are the other signs that follow. With continued infection, joints, the face, neck, heart and muscles are also affected. The resulting signs and symptoms are because of these systemic infections. Neck rigidity and muscle cramps are other signs and symptoms resulting from the infection. Inflammation of the meninges may occur if the infection spreads to the brain. Basing on these symptoms a diagnosis is possibly made. However, true diagnosis is made though blood tests.

Treatment of Lyme disorder is possible. This is however effective if detected early. If diagnosis or treatment is delayed, there are risks of developing long lasting complications. It is therefore important to seek treatment once you start developing such signs and symptoms.

Lyme disease is usually treated with antibiotic therapy. Doxycycline, which is considered as the first line therapy, is commonly used for treatment. Apart from the advantage of curing the disease, Doxycycline also has the advantage of curing all other infections of tick origin. Due to its adverse effects, it is not advisable for use in children particularly less than eight years and expectant women.

Amoxicillin and azithromycin, also antibiotics, act as second line medications for treating the disorder. They are effective when administered either orally or intravenously. The period of treatment varies and usually ranges from one week to four weeks to completely eliminate the disorder. This duration is however determined by the severity of the disease process. It has been proved that starting the treatment within the first two weeks of infection is effective but this is not possible since the bacteria can be visualized in blood for diagnosis after five weeks.

Preventing any disorder is more economical than curing it. Preventing Lyme disorder would be wise therefore than treating it. Several means to prevent the disease have been put up. Vaccination proved more effective than the other protective means. The production of particular vaccines stopped because of limited market available.

Wearing of protective clothing such as long sleeved hat and long trousers or boots is another preventive method. Also, light colored clothing make the tick easily visible for removal before it attaches itself. Using insect repellents, keeping off long grass and reducing contacts with primary hosts, deer and mice would also help in prevention.

Study: Older Sisters At Great Risk of Obesity

A New Zealand study has found that firstborns are more insulin resistant than their siblings, which puts them at a higher risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity.

Why? The study authors theorize that less of the mother’s blood reaches the placenta during her first pregnancy because the blood vessels are narrower. This could also explain why firstborns tend to weigh less at birth than their siblings.

We should caution that this is an observational study, so a definitive cause and effect relationship between being firstborn and being overweight hasn’t been established.

Nonetheless, the findings are fascinating, and they raise an important question: How can you control your insulin resistance, and thereby control your risk of diabetes and obesity?
