Only is a Four-Letter Word
TIKITAMI

These last couple of weeks I've learned about how I deal with motivation. It started when I got my Garmin. Based on my activity level Garmin immediately put me in a group of people "like" me and gave me a step goal. I found it demotivating when I was being trounced by everyone in the group.

I tried another group and it just caused me stress to make sure I kept up with everyone. How dumb is that? I don't know anything about their lifestyles. I don't know how fit they are, if they are long distance runners, if their steps are coming from other activities, yet I was was comparing myself to them. I found I was starting to put myself down because I should be keeping up.

I see other people doing this when people ask how many steps a day you are doing in chats. Newbies or people building their endurance tend to use the word "only" when they say their steps, hanging their head down because they think they should be doing more. If you are proud of what you've accomplished, shout it! You are getting stronger and healthier, that is not an "only".

I always look to others for inspiration, and there are some amazing people here. I am grateful for them sharing their journey and leading by example. They have absolutely given me great ideas on how to improve areas where I've needed help. I just need to remind myself that I am pretty awesome, too.
