This skill makes the world a better place

SparkPeopleHello from Sparkguy

Hello Everyone

After surviving my surgery, I have made it a big goal to do my part in helping build Fit & Healthy Leaders who will reach their own goals, but also spark many other people. I'm more determined than ever to make this happen.

This includes sharing information about different types of leadership skills. Remember, the way we look at losing weight and getting fit is very comprehensive. There are many different types of skills that can help you build the types of healthy habits that will make a big impact on your life -- and then help you help others do the same.

While thinking about this concept, I ran across a short 1-minute video that does an incredible job illustrating one of these skills: compassion.

Compassion is an interesting skill because I think it involves the ability to visualize what is happening with other people. For example, if someone says something mean to you, the easy response is to just get upset about those words. The more compassionate response could be to visualize why the person may have said these mean words. Was it simply a bad day? Or could it be something deeper like some sort of personal issue, financial issue, depression, or more?

When you take a step back and visualize the situations of other people, this makes it easier to be compassionate in a heated situation.

When you practice this, it can then lead to stronger, more trustworthy relationships with people. This then connects back to your own health because having strong relationships is proven to have many health benefits and increase your quality of life.

Of course, we are all accountable for our actions, but sometimes compassion leading to a discussion about real issues can be a much better path than just holding someone accountable for the surface-level situation.

No matter how well I talk about this skill, it can't compare to an example of this displayed by a police officer to a man threatening him with a knife. Take a look at this 1-minute video on my blog as an incredible motivator to think about how you can apply this skill in your life!

What are your thoughts about this skill and video? This is a good topic to really think about.

As I mentioned last week, you can also post a highlight from your week at the link above too! When you practice planning to have highlights, you increase your odds of having highlights :).
