What 100 Days Can Do For You
PAMBROWN62

Back on April 5th, I made an exercise commitment. I signed up for the Leslie Sansone, 100 day, Walk a Mile Challenge. The premise was simple, I commit to doing an activity that would give me one mile of sustained exercise each day. It had to be a single block of exercise, not my all day activity. I could total my all day activity but the exercise had to be separate.

I started this challenge when the Las Vegas weather was cool and my 1-3 mile outdoor walks was a pleasant experience. Well, along came June and sustained 100+ temps that curtailed my outdoor walks. However, I was determined to continue so I started mall walking, and I did videos, and I used SparkPeople TV, and YouTube. I wanted to complete the challenge and so I found a way to get the job done.

My Challenge Stats:

Leslie Sansone 1 Mile, 100 day Challenge - April 5 to July 13:
Duration: 100 Days
Total Exercise Miles: 182.56
Total Daily Fitbit Miles w/o Exercise Miles: 513.55

When I started out it was all about finishing the challenge. That was my main focus, but it has become much more than that. Yes, I finished the challenge but I also started a habit that I plan to sustain for the rest of my life. Exercise.

I am never going to run a marathon. I am never going to compete in an endurance race, heck, in any race that requires I run. I will never be a devotee of the gym or of pumping iron. What I am going to do is to continue to do something. I will take a daily 1-2 mile walk. I will get up every hour and do 250 steps or more. I will do strength training and cardio, and exercise videos. I will put on my iPod while cleaning and "dance to the music." I am going to do a solid 30 minutes every day of something that gets my heart pumping and my metabolism revving and my body moving.

I started because I wanted to see if I COULD do it. I will continue because now I know I CAN.
