How to be a positive person

SparkPeopleHello from Sparkguy

Hi Everyone

Happy February. I hope you are having a good start to 2019 and that it's not too cold where you are located (or too hot for some parts of the world)!

I'm doing great. Today is the 4-month anniversary of my brain seizure. I hope I'll get my driver's license back on Monday. I have to do a phone interview with the Department of Motor Vehicles. Gaaa. One step at a time.

I noticed something interesting the past couple of months. Right after I had my surgery, I was still in great shape, so it was pretty easy to write on a weekly basis. But, since I could only do small amounts of exercise for the first 2-3 months after the surgery, I slowly lost some energy from reduced fitness levels and even gained 5-10 pounds. Recently, I was able to start doing my exercise bike again and I can already feel the extra energy from that coming back. This also makes it easier for me to write.

This week, I would like to share a formula to be a positive person. This is a way to be "strategicaly positive" -- this means not just being blindly positive, but figuring out the right way to be positive as you'll see below.

Here are the 5 steps to this formula:
  1. If there are both negatives and positives in a situation, be positive overall (gratitude). Point 2 shows how this does not mean being blindly positive.
  2. If something is negative (either as an overall situation or as a sub-point of #1 above), get really good at recognizing what is negative, why it’s negative, and most importantly equally good at figuring out how to make it positive.
  3. If something is positive (either as an overall situation or as a sub-point of #1 above), get really good at figuring out how to continue this, capitalize on it as many ways as you can, and build momentum from this.
  4. Actively practice analyzing situations and repeating this over time in all areas of life. By doing this, you will build pattern recognition, wisdom, and strong strategy expertise – a highly valuable skill. Pattern recognition simply means seeing similar things happen in a pattern, which can help you know what is more likely to happen next.
  5. Life will likely be better!
I hope you like this formula! Are there ways you can use this in your life? Let me know on this blog if you'd like.
