| | Week of 06/28/2018 - Featured Blog Post Some Days are "Meh" Days I'd be the last person to say that living a healthy lifestyle is exhilarating every day. There are ups and downs to weight loss and maintaining losses and there are days I feel...well, I feel meh. Since I live with myself and my moods, I know that "meh" means a danger zone for eating and maintaining a fitness routine. Sigh. On these days what works motivates me is to say "I don't have to do much, but I do have to do something." There are so many 'starting points' to a healthy day but these are some slow start activities that really help me: Water. I get a big glass and set it next to me on my sofa. (Remember, this is a meh day and I'm not moving very fast). I drink. Laundry. Now I suspect this does not appear anywhere on SparkPeople as a fitness activity, but for me, just getting up, collecting the laundry and getting it to the machine involves a few steps of stairs and well, STEPS. Walking. This is a little 'meh' booster that only works if I promise myself I will only take short walk. I live on a cul de sac attached to a block long street. Even on a meh a day it does not seem like much, so I do that. When I start a walk like this I remind myself that just doing this will be enough. Otherwise I'd never get out the door. Music. I like to listen to music when I walk. It lifts my spirits and makes walking effortless. Music also seems to go with cutting up veggies for a snack or a meal. So often in a meh mood I'll turn it on. Journaling. I write down exactly what I'm feeling. Sometimes I only write 'meh' because that will focus me. That's my starter list. My meh moods never last too long, but I've grown to like them in a way. I am not a puppet after all, but a human who has her ups and downs. And for me, acknowledging my mood helps me get going and move along to a sunnier place. This is not a "jump start" but a slow start. How do you to deal with a meh day?
