Hi Everyone!
First, do you use Quora (the Q&A site)? If so, would you mind following me at Quora and upvoting my answers if you think they are worthy of being upvoted? I started answering questions there sometimes and the more followers and upvotes I receive, the more people there will learn how to reach their goals in a healthy and fun way! Here is my profile to follow.
Next, if you tried one of the 7-day SparkChallenges I sent out last week, I'd love to hear your thoughts! We have many ideas to continue enhancing this new platform, but want to hear your thoughts as part of this project. You can share any thoughts on this blog.
If you haven't participated in a SparkChallenge yet, you can start your own at this link.
The Power of Motivation
This is a fun story about the power of motivation that will also make you laugh. This year for the NBA all-star basketball game, the two leading vote-getters became the captains of the two teams (Lebron James and Steph Curry). They then took turns selecting from the remaining all-stars to be on their respective teams. The voting was done in private.
Lebron posted a list of his selections to social media.
One of the players on Lebron's team is Russell Westbrook. Westbrook is a VERY intense player. He saw his name listed last on the list and thought he was the last player selected. He also saw a player named John Wall just ahead of him on the list and assumed Wall was taken just prior to him. It happened that Westbrook's team was playing Wall's team that night. Look out! Feeling slighted, Westbrook used this as motivation to go out and score 46 points -- his hightest total for the season.
You may have picked up on the fact that Wall comes before Westbrook alphabetically and "W" is near the end of the alphabet. Yes, this list was in alphabetical order and not in selection order!!
Westbrook had made a mistake, but he used the motivation from that mistake to go out and fuel his team to a win.
This is a silly story overall, but it highlights that even the top basketball players in the world use different forms of motivation to drive them to reach goals.
I would not recommend using this type of motivation as a primary motivator, but you can use this type as a fun secondary motivator sometimes to stay on track with your goals.
This is why I recommend writing down your goals and reasons you want to be healthy and fit. Then you can constantly use this as a source of motivation that will help you make better choices right in the moment when selecting foods to eat, how to spend your time, and more. You can then give yourself pep talks and more based on your goals.
How does this sound?

Finally, if you haven't seen it yet, here is my free mini-book called Spark2018. It takes about 30 minutes to read or shorter to skim and continues receiving great comments from members.
Here is a fun comment from a member about both the mini-book and SparkChallenges:

These mini challenges are definitely great for busy people. I have joined up on 4 currently and will be working hard to keep them viable and active. Now that my retirement life has slowed a little, it's time to concentrate on the ME in this world. In Oct. I will have been with SP for 10 yrs. with about half of the time on a plateau but the time has come to shatter that and restart the downhill climb to better health. The mini book is what we need to keep on top of our health.
