Well, a recent study out of Thailand may have found just that. | The research compared the effectiveness of curcumin and the prescription drug omeprazole, and both combined in 206 people with functional dyspepsia (aka indigestion). The small study, which was the first head-to-head trial of the two remedies, found that taking 250mg capsules of curcumin four times a day for 28 days significantly improved symptoms and was comparable to taking 20mg of omeprazole daily over the same time period. | These findings support a body of evidence that shows curcumin's anti-inflammatory properties can reduce gut discomfort. Traditional Indian medicine has used turmeric for stomach and liver issues for centuries. And many natural indigestion remedies use anti-inflammatory spices like ginger and fennel. | While this new study sounds promising, larger human studies are still needed to confirm the safety and effectiveness of using curcumin for indigestion.
