Wearables are the health gift that keep on giving
what's got us buzzing
Wearables are the health gift that keep on giving
Wearables are sleek little pieces of tech that track your health and activity levels. They're best known for tracking step count, but the wearables of today can track a whole lot more than that, including sleep habits, menstrual cycles, heart rate, and stress levels. Researchers are even working on wearables that can measure glucose levels, tumor growth, and vaginal pH.

The benefits of fitness trackers — a popular category of wearables — are backed up by cold hard science. The American Council on Exercise found people who track their daily step count tend to walk an extra 2,500 steps per day. For context, folks who walked an average of 8,000 steps a day were found to be 51% less likely to die from any cause than people who walked 4,000 steps a day. Yes, all of the causes!

I'm the last person to jump on a tech trend, no matter how many studies back it up. But as a member of the health media, I sit all day reading about how bad it is to sit all day. So, when a publicist offered me a free Fitbit Charge 5 to test, I jumped on it. And I can honestly say I'd spend my own money on this product.

As Fitbit's newest fitness tracker, it comes with all the bells and whistles, including a 6-month free trial of Premium membership. My favorite feature so far is the sleep tracker. I love that it gives me a color-coded graph for how much time I spend in each sleep cycle. I always thought I was an 8-hour-a-night girl but it turns out 7 hours is my magic number. You can read about its many, many features here.

From Nov. 20 through Nov. 28, the Fitbit Charge 5 will be marked down by $50. You can see all of Fitbit's Black Friday deals here.

tl;dr: Fitness trackers can help you increase your step count, which can help you live longer and healthier. I tried the Fitbit Charge 5 and think it's definitely worth the money. From Nov. 20–28 it'll be on sale for $99.

You're up
Thank you, next
Did you think this newsletter was only going to tell you how to spend your money? Oh no, friends — we're here to help you save some cash, too! We put our years of product testing skills to the test and came up with a list of items that shouldn't make it under the tree this year.
This week, newsletter editor Morgan Mandriota is coming for The Always Pan.
The Always Pan is a social media darling. The pan pledges to be a one-stop-cooking shop that replaces your frying pans, skillets, steamers, and saucepans. While it might save some space, the truth is it's pretty underwhelming … at least in my experience.
I've found that it isn't any better than my regular nonstick hard anodized T-fal pans, which cost me $20 for three pans, compared to $100 for the Only Pan.
As for the other features … The steamer? Not a new invention. You can buy steamer inserts for cheap. The wooden spatula? It doesn't fit in the designated spot so the pot lid sits super wonky, and it discolored after one interaction with a pigmented ingredient. Also, replacing 8+ pots/pans with a single Always Pan means you'll forever be committed to making one-pot meals.
Needless to say, the Always Pan and its accessories aren't my favorite. There *is* one part that lives up to the hype, though: I keep the pan on my stovetop because it's a pretty green and gives off the illusion that I cook more often than I do.
Try this instead: Thermo-Spot cookware 12-piece set. I've had these pans for over a year now and they're just as nonsticky as they were when I first got them. For ~$20 less than the Always Pan, you can get a full set of pots, pans, and utensils that work just as well if not better.
We want to know: Have you ever bought anything that didn't live up to expectations? Let us know at wellnesswire@healthline.com. (By answering this question, we'll enter you into the drawing to get a free Fitbit Charge 5.)

Thanks for reading! I want to end with a Healthline hot tip: Two luxury comfort brands are predicted to be 20% off site-wide in the coming days. Brooklinen and Parachute don't go on sale very often, so if you've been plotting a splurge, now is the time.
