| | Week of 10/11/2018 - Featured Blog Post I Know I'm Succeeding If scales didn't exist, how would I know that I was succeeding? Since I have been gaining and losing the same five pounds (sometimes in the same day) for a couple of months now, I have gotten a lot of practice at developing the mindset of looking at non-scale measures to determine success. Don't get me wrong, I'm still determined to make it to Onederland. It's just that things are happening that matter far more to me. It has been five days since I was taken off insulin. My numbers are staying firmly in the normal range. I am beyond excited. This has huge long and short term implications for my overall health. This is success. This is perhaps the single most important measure of my success...getting my blood sugar back under control. If that were all, I would be content. It is enough. But it isn't nearly all. When I started this journey I couldn't climb a flight of stairs without being winded. Now I intentionally do 10 flights every day of the work week as part of getting in my 250 steps per hour. Every hour's steps include doing the 24 steps in my office down to the first floor and back up. I need to take new measurements. I may do that today. Those are showing the difference, too. By every measure, except the scale, I am succeeding. So, screw the scale. The scale no longer gets to dictate how I feel about my journey. I have found other reasons to celebrate. I am flourishing at 50. I am inspiring others to begin or continue on their own journey to health. I feel better than I have in years. I am getting stronger every day. I win.
