| | Week of 09/20/2018 - Featured Blog Post Time to Celebrate some NSVs! My mission for today, according to the plateau-busting challenge I'm doing, is to write down recent non-scale victories and celebrate! My greatest NSV is that I have finally started to think about the WHY behind my failed weight loss attempts instead of just starting a new diet. Yes, I'm trying to exercise and eat a bit less, but my focus is what's going on behind the scenes. So here's my little list: - I've started writing in a journal. What I ate and why, plus how the day went and how I feel. Nothing too fancy but necessary since I'm a person who always hides my feelings and pretends they aren't there. This always ends up in a binge or just compulsive overeating for days. - I'm exercising again, thanks to SparkPeople's "30-Day Jumpstart Your Workout Challenge". The workouts are very short and simple and that's why it's perfect for me at the moment. - I've learned that it's important to change your attitude from victim to responsible adult who makes her own decisions. For example "there's no time for exercise" is really "I have other priorities than exercise". This is a good thing, because it helps you understand that you are always in charge. An important one for me is "I chose to drink soda" instead of "Oh no, I can't control myself around soda." In the same way I can decide not to snack in the evenings if I don't want to because it's 100% my choice. - I'm practicing thinking in values rather than just goals. Yes, goals are important but you can't really argue with values! I am a person who moves, who eats a balanced diet, who doesn't stuff her face with foods she doesn't even like that much "just because". When you pair up values with taking responsibility and understanding that the choice is always yours, cool stuff happens. Like yesterday when I went to bed without eating anything after dinner. It might sound simple and easy, but for me, it's huge.
