After an exhausting two days in Louisville to celebrate the Kentucky Derby, my boyfriend texted that he was impressed that I didn't skip out on my workout this morning in light of our mostly sleepless weekend. "#NeverMissaMonday," I replied. This simple, but effective mantra is something I've repeated to myself on more than one coffee-infused Monday morning to convince myself that hitting the "Cancel Booking" button isn't worth it. If I can make myself stick to my promise to myself, I find that my mood toward workouts and healthy living the rest of the week is improved. Simply making it to my Monday workout feels like an accomplishment, even if I'm really not in the mood and maybe don't feel like giving it my best. Hitting that workout is a statement to myself and to anyone listening that this week I'm going to work hard, that I'm promising to make smart choices and I'm focused on the prize.
