Hi SparkPeople Members
I hope you are having a good start to June! Our kids are off school and happily enjoying summertime.
I'll start off by featuring a great member quote. Here is a quote from SparkPeople member MORAVIANSTAR on my Small Goals Commitment Challenge that perfectly illustrates the point of this challenge:
"It struck me this morning when thinking about all your posts related to this 'challenge' that overall the focus is going away from diet and becoming much broader. When I have tried to lose weight in the past, my entire focus has been on food, which leads me to obsess about food, which leads me to think about eating all the time, which leads to eating too much, even if it's healthy stuff, which leads to very little weight loss! This new focus has me thinking about coming up with a mantra I can use - maybe something like 'Is this decision (about whatever) going to further my good health plan.' This new 'challenge' has me starting to think in different ways about this entire issue."
She really understands the power of Crisscross Effects and using all areas of life to reach weight loss and other goals instead of just focusing narrowly on food (even though food choices are a very important part of the puzzle).
If you are interested in getting regular reminders and motivation to reach your goals, just subscribe to my blog and you will receive an email each time I publish a blog. As of today, I have posted short blogs to encourage my followers 55 days in a row. Whether or not you are regularly tracking your food on SparkPeople, this can be a simple way to stay on track with any goal in life. To follow me, just:
1) Mobile -- Visit this link and: 1) click on "Blog posts"; 2) click on "Subscribe to this blog."
2) Desktop -- Visit this link and click the button on the right side of the page that says "Subscribe to this Blog."
This week's topic is about building habits. This is part of the Focus Cornerstone and getting clear about your goals. When you build habits one at a time, they become almost automatic so you can then focus on other goals. I also answer the question about whether it takes 21 days to build a habit.
If you missed last week's email about the power of goal-setting (one of the most important skills in life), here is a link to that email.
If you have a minute for something fun, here is my blog today that talks about a fun highlight I had on a recent bike ride -- including a great 1-minute video of a humpback whale.
Finally, we've now had over 21,000 presses of the SparkButton. This is a fun way to commit to reaching your small goals. Hopefully the more content I put together for this challenge, the more everyone will realize just how meaningful it can be to make this type of small commitment in a simple and fun way by pressing the button. You don't need to be logged in to click the button, just visit the link above and scroll down to the bottom of the page and join the fun -- help us reach our next goal of 25,000 presses!
SparkCheers!
