Below, a registered dietitian at Healthline and Wellos Coach, Lindsay Mahar, gives her hottest tips. | | | | Eat up, Ginger Wojcik Newsletter Editor, Healthline | | | Written by Ginger Wojcik January 7, 2025 • 3 min read | | | | Powered by | | | | | | Q: | What are "healthier" ways to cook eggs? | | A: | If by "healthy" you mean which cooking method will help an egg retain its nutritional value while not bulking up the fat and calorie content, the most important factor to consider is what you add during and after cooking. Adding oil, butter, or milk during cooking, and cheese or hollandaise sauce for serving, will all contribute more calories and fat.
While frying and scrambling eggs are deliciously popular cooking methods, cooking with oils or butter adds extra fat and calories, which are a consideration for some. Can over-easy or scrambled eggs be cooked without the addition of butter or oil? Yes! Just add a little water to a nonstick pan and cover it while cooking. This will help soften and steam-cook the eggs. The final product will be lighter and less greasy.
However, a little oil or butter can definitely be included in a healthy, balanced diet! It all depends on how much you use and how you balance it with the rest of your day.
