The book was called . . . wait for it . . . Bigger Leaner Stronger (wow woah) . . . and in the beginning, I had no expectations. I figured it had about a 50% chance of selling zero copies and 50% chance of selling not-zero copies.
Fast forward to today, and it's closing in on 700,000 copies sold, making it one of the most successful self-published fitness books of all time.
Actually wow woah.
Early on, however, women were reading it and reaching out to ask how to adapt its teachings to their needs. Leaner and stronger? VERY EXCITE. Bigger? Hard pass.
Thus, I rewrote the book for women, tailoring everything to their ladylike circumstances and needs, and I called it Thinner Leaner Stronger.
And that book has also boomed, selling nearly 500,000 copies to date.
More wow woah. And even a freeze-frame high-five.
Something else happened early on too, however—readers started emailing me with great questions and suggestions. And so in addition to answering their emails, I began making notes of how I could improve the books to better meet my readers' needs.
In time, I took all of the notes and wrote and released new (second) editions of the books. They were well received, and the feedback process began anew, eventually leading to the publication of the third editions, which I thought would be the last versions for at least a spell and a half.
But a couple of years ago, after going through the rigorous editorial process of producing my first traditionally published book, Muscle for Life (published by Simon & Schuster), I realized that I could apply what I had learned from that experience to greatly improve Bigger Leaner Stronger and Thinner Leaner Stronger.
And so that's what I did—I wrote and just recently released new fourth editions of both of the books, and they're fuuu-huuu-huuuu-dging phenomenal.
Really. They're so good I had to jam extra syllables into the word "fudging."
Here's why:
- I rewrote basically everything and reorganized the material to make it even easier to follow, understand, and apply.
- I improved the training programs (including everything in the bonus material) based on feedback from readers, coaches, and coaching clients as well as advances in the science of strength and hypertrophy.
- I removed material that was relevant and possibly interesting but not vital and included new information that'll help you get even better results on the program.
What's more, the eBooks are gratis (WOW WOAH) if you're a Kindle Unlimited subscriber and just $2.99 if you aren't (wow?).
And yes, there are paperbacks, hardcovers, and audiobooks, too.
