In a Nutshell
Don't get me wrong, I love dabbling in alternative health remedies. But after my friend recently told me she uses a crystal-infused water bottle to boost her mood and cleanse her water, I couldn't help but feel skeptical.
Witchy wellness has become so popular lately, which makes me wonder whether brands are just trying to capitalize on the hype. So, I decided to find out: Are the benefits of crystal-infused water bottles legit?
You know the drill. First up, here are some new health stories you may have missed:

The science behind crystal-infused water bottles
🔮 What is this trend? Crystals have been used in spiritual health modalities for thousands of years, dating back to ancient civilizations in Egypt, Greece, and India. Some people believe that holding or keeping them nearby can rebalance your energy field and help reduce anxiety, stress, or even physical pain. Enter: crystal-infused water bottles, which are said to work by transferring a crystal's energy –– and potential perks –– directly into the water you're drinking by changing its pH and oxygen levels.

Can crystals really help your health? While anecdotal evidence definitely exists, no studies are available to support these claims. That doesn't mean they don't work. It could be a powerful placebo effect at play. "Sometimes a belief in something is all we need to help improve our health, mind, and wellness," says functional medicine practitioner Jerry Bailey. On that note, if a crystal-infused water bottle can help you drink more water every day, or you just feel great drinking from it, go for it! Just keep a few safety measures in mind.

⚠️️ Precautions to take. Never place crystals directly in your drinking water. According to the International Gem Society, certain gems such as pyrite and moonstone can actually make water toxic. Research the company you're considering buying from, and check to make sure the bottle has a separate chamber for gems and doesn't use glue, adhesive, or metal wire to keep it in place. As long as you're (safely) staying hydrated each day, that's where science says the health magic happens.

ZeroWater EcoFilter 10-Cup Filter Pitcher
ZeroWater EcoFilter 10-Cup Filter Pitcher
Whether you're drinking water from a glass or crystal-infused bottle, make sure it's filtered! I've been using this eco-friendly pitcher for 3 years now, and the water really tastes like, well, nothing. It's the only pour-through filter certified by the National Science Foundation that effectively reduces harmful chemicals such as lead, chromium, and PFOS. The pitcher holds 10 cups of water (so you don't have to constantly fill it up), and each filter lasts up to 6 months or 120 gallons of pours –– whichever comes first.
