It's Mardi Gras, y'all! As with any holiday, food is a central part of the festivities. As I dreamed of gumbo and king cake and boudin (oh my!) this weekend, I also reflected on the importance of balance and healthy eating. You see, as I prepare for my own wedding, I've been more conscious of my eating habits, which, admittedly, are often inconsistent. As I found myself thinking, "Maybe I won't buy a king cake this year," I realized that depriving myself was not the answer. In fact, saying no would only make me want it more, meaning I'd end up scarfing down some other sweet treat in its place. Whether you're losing or maintaining weight, the most important thing to remember is that your efforts must be sustainable, and that means you're going to have cake or whatever your favorite indulgence so happens to be.
