News: Trouble Sleeping? Here’s How to Eat at Night

A new study that was just presented at the meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies in Seattle has found that people who have difficulty sleeping – which is at least 1 in 4 American adults – can improve their symptoms if they eat less at night.

After studying 44 sleep-deprived volunteers, the researchers found that sleepy folks are much more likely to eat after dinner, usually to the tune of  500 extra calories. The researchers found the next day that those who weren’t allowed to eat after dinner had faster reaction times, better focus… and better sleep.

Eating a lot before bed is one way to get a bad night’s sleep. Here are 9 more, from the About.com board-certified sleep specialist.
