In a Nutshell
Hello, it's me. 🎶
No, I'm not here to talk about Adele. I just love that song! Today, I'll be talking about music though, and all the wonderful ways it benefits my well-being.
I'm a creature of habit — I'll listen to the same songs on repeat for months. Lately, my go-to artists are lyrical storyteller Andy Shauf, oldies-esque Cut Worms, and dreamy The Japanese House. But when I'm in a no-vocals mood or need to boost focus, lo-fi is my music of choice.
If you've never heard of "lo-fi," you're not alone! Most of my team had never heard of it either, until I pitched this story. Below, I'll explain exactly why lo-fi is my go-to genre.

Why I love lo-fi music
what's got us buzzing
Why I love lo-fi music
Lo-fi music is basically chill beats and vibey melodies. I find it boosts my concentration while writing, editing, cleaning, and cooking without the distraction of vocals.
There's minimal research on this genre specifically, but a ton of anecdotal evidence suggests lo-fi songs can help you meditate and sleep better. Research also shows that certain types of music can help you study by improving memory, mood, motivation, and focus.
If you're interested, a simple search for "lo-fi music" on YouTube or any streaming platform will serve up plenty of playlists you can check out. For my fellow nerds, I personally recommend Eluzai's Memory Cards album featuring instrumentals inspired by OG video games like Zelda and Mario.
Spotify is my music streaming platform of choice, so when I feel like branching out, I usually listen to its AI DJ, the Discover Weekly playlist, and radio stations that suggest similar music based on the artist or song of your choice. But I'm curious …
How do you find new music? Which song(s) have you been listening to recently? Let me know at wellnesswire@healthline.com!

Great finds
A portable waterproof speaker

JBL Flip 5
JBL Flip 5
A past roommate used to keep a JBL Flip in the shower, and it worked great! It's a loud, small, waterproof speaker you can jam out to for hours before it needs a charge. It comes in all different colors, too. Pick your favorite, connect to Bluetooth, and then play it by the pool, on a bike ride, or wherever else you want.
