| | Week of 03/14/2019 - Featured Blog Post I Never Thought I Could Do It! Today I walked a mile with Leslie Sansone. I'm in a wheelchair, I have some joints that are bone on bone, and I have Meniere's disease which makes orienting in space a challenge. I fall really easily. I have fibromyalgia, which can cause a lot of pain. There are a lot of reasons why walking a mile was impossible. Or so I thought. I quit listening to what other people thought I should do. I started listening to my body. I made my own exercise program and started out really slowly. I do a lot of seated exercise videos and recumbent biking. I still never thought I could walk for exercise. Last week I started walking in place, slowly, to the music that inspired me. Today, I thought I'd just do what was reasonably comfortable. I found a YouTube video and started, with no thought of finishing. A MILE! Two months ago I could walk 50 feet. Yes, I did have to touch a piece of furniture to stay oriented. There were times I had to walk half the tempo of the folks on the tape, but I did it! I still have to take it slow and careful, and that might always be true, but what isn't true is that I tell myself I can't!
