I've been on this path so long it seems like it will never end. This year my path has been especially rocky and there were times I felt like giving up. There were so many obstacles in my way, most of which I had absolutely no control over.

Then one day I was talking to a friend and she said, "I wish you would be as kind to yourself as you are to others." That got to me. I would do almost anything for my family and friends, but sacrificing for myself? No way! Low self esteem has always been an issue with me but I didn't realize it had manifested itself in such a way that I was actually hurting not only my weight loss goals but my health as well.

Let me tell you folks, when you don't treat your body like it deserves to be treated, it may just rebel and you won't have any choice but to wake up, eat with nutrition in mind as well as flavor, do whatever exercise you can, without hurting yourself and most of all to be as kind to yourself as you are to others.

My path is much smoother now and I'm looking forward to making good progress from now until I reach my goal a year or so from now. But this time, there will be no arbitrary deadlines, weight loss spreadsheets, obsessive weighing, starving and binging, excessive exercise and days when I couldn't even muster up the gumption to get out of bed.

I'm going to be kind to myself and put one foot in front of the other no matter what the path ahead looks like and I know I will get there in due time.
