"When you feel like you're losing motivation or feel like quitting, look straight ahead at that person in the mirror," instructors regularly encourage. "Right now, you're in a competition between that person staring back at you and only that person. Don't let your mind take you out of the race or allow what the person next to you is doing distract you. This is all you." While I hate looking into that mirror and thinking, "Wow, my face gets really red when I run," I do find that those mini pep talks help me push just one step farther. Looking yourself in the eyes and thinking "I can do this" can be enough to push you beyond your limit--even if it's just for five seconds--and suddenly, you realize that your body is capable of amazing things. This week, if you're feeling like quitting on yourself, find a mirror, look yourself in the face and give yourself the most important pep talk of your day.
