Inspirational story about a setback leading to success

SparkPeopleHello from Sparkguy

Hi Everyone

Last week my email was titled "Don't Ever Give Up".

I wrote that on Saturday. Then on Sunday tens of millions of people saw an incredible example of this in action.

Before I start, I know many people are upset with the NFL. I'll ask you to set that aside for a moment if you can to see an example of not giving up that could motivate you from a great person.

This happened to Nick Foles, the BACKUP quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles. Foles has had both success and failure in the NFL in the past. He had an incredible season in 2013. But the past few years have been challenging for Foles and he almost retired after the 2015 season.

But he didn't give up...

This year, he was signed to be the backup quarterback for the Eagles. Late in the season, the Eagles starting quarterback was injured, so Foles had to step in to lead the team. He had some good games and not-so-good games to end the year. Many people thought the Eagles had no chance to go very far with a backup quarterback. Then Foles caught fire in the playoffs leading up to the Super Bowl.

In the Super Bowl, Foles played an incredible game to lead his team to victory and was even named MVP of the Super Bowl. He went from almost-retiring to Super Bowl MVP.

But one of the best parts of his incredible journey is that he used the MVP platform to motivate other people and tell them how they can learn from his failure. He also shared words of wisdom about social media that relate to all of us. Here is what Foles said about dealing with failure:

"I think the big thing is don't be afraid to fail. I think, you know, in our society today, Instagram, Twitter, it's a highlight reel. It's all the good things," he told reporters. "And then when you look at it, you know, you think like, wow, when you have a rough day or your life is not good as that, [you think] you're failing. Failure is a part of life. It's a part of building character and growing. Without failure, who would you be? I wouldn't be up here if I hadn't fallen thousands of times, made mistakes. We all are human, we all have weaknesses, and I think throughout this, just being able to share that and be transparent -- I know when I listen to people speak and they share their weaknesses, I'm listening."

"So I'm not perfect," he continued. "I'm not Superman. I might be in the NFL, I might have just won a Super Bowl, but, hey, we still have daily struggles, I still have daily struggles. And that's where my faith comes in, that's where my family comes in. I think when you look at a struggle in your life, just know that's just an opportunity for your character to grow. And that's just been the message. Simple. If something's going on in your life and you're struggling, embrace it. Because you're growing."

I put the video on my blog (less than 2 minutes) if you'd like to hear the message from him and share it with anyone who might need this message.

Foles even has a goal to become a pastor someday. He sure is a great motivator. What are your thoughts on this? Let me know in the blog above!

Also, if you have a setback or make any type of mistake, I wrote a lesson with a formula to help you handle any type of setback.

That lesson is also included in my free mini-book.
