50 Ways to Feel Happy Today
A-NEW-OLD-LAURA

One of my goals for this week was to make a happiness list.

What do I mean?

Last Saturday, I posted how I was feeling down about a lot of things, and a goofy TV show totally turned my mood around. It was SUCH an eye-opening experience. I knew in my brain that one simple action may be able to turn my emotions around, but I'd never experienced it so drastically.

Depression is real. And depression is scary. But depression does NOT have to define me. I absolutely don't believe that I will ALWAYS be able to get out of the funk with something from my list. And I definitely am not implying that this will work for anybody else. But I believe SOMETHING on this list may just work for me SOMETIMES.

There will be days that I feel a little glum--or even downright sad. But not every day. And I have such hope knowing that I may just have the power to shake things up. So I may not feel happy at a particular time. But the smile can still come.

The first 5 tasks on my list are my non-negotiables. If I haven't done all of them, I really need to check them off my list first. (Heck! if I start out feeling good but then haven't done those first 5 items, I will start feeling down. That's why they are non-negotiables.) And if I'm feeling down, I have to remind myself that I won't *want* to do anything on the list, even an easy item. Which means I'll have to take a deep breath and just do one of them.

(Again--I'm not saying that this is a solution for *anybody* else who struggles with depression. But this is something I believe will work for me and something I want to try.)

50 WAYS TO FEEL HAPPY

1. If I haven't exercised yet, do it NOW!
2. Take a shower. Brush my teeth. Get completely dressed with lotion, nice clothes, hair fixed and make up.
3. Say an out-loud prayer.
4. Read scriptures.
5. Write down 5 things I'm grateful for.
6. Call Hubs.
7. Send a funny text to the kids.
8. Clean and disinfect off kitchen counters. Pause and look at the results.
9. Go to the consignment store and find something cheap and cute. Talk to the cashier.
10. Watch a TV show that makes me smile.
