| | Week of 12/28/2017 - Featured Blog Post Ten Minutes No Matter What That's what I say when I open up a conversation about exercise. In social situations people ask what I've been doing lately. My standard response is "I try to exercise ten minutes daily no matter what." Immediately the conversation goes to pros and cons of gyms, workouts at home, running outdoors versus treadmill or borrowing local high school's track after hours. I might think I'm at the bottom of the exercise totem pole, but as it turns out many people simply exercise weekends, or twice a week because it doesn't occur to them that ten minutes is viable. Last night I left the house thinking a ten minutes walk looking at Christmas lights is better than nothing, and sure enough I ended up strolling for 28 minutes. The point is that thinking "just ten minutes" got me out the door. Meanwhile my colleagues didn't get any time exercising because they haven't given themselves permission to do "just ten minutes". SparkPeople overcame my prejudice about exercise by giving me permission to do "just 10".
